1. Describe another language that you would like to learn.

I must say that I’m a language geek, I mean I’ve learned 3 languages so far but there’s a language I’ve always wanted to learn , which is Korean. Like Chinese and Japanese, the Korean language has its own alphabetical system, and uses a variety of in its writing, which is totally different from my mother - one of the Latin languages.

And about its speaking, the pronunciation and stresses are way more than our language. Korean has a lot of similar sounds, and only when you pay close attention to them do you realize the differences between those sounds. So I guess it’s going to be kind of a big deal when I learn how to speak Korean, cause I really can’t tell the distinction.

The rich Oriental culture of Korea is probably the reason why I am attached to this language so much.

I remember vaguely when I was only 4 or 5 years old, that was the first time I ever watched a K-drama, and I was hooked right away, after just 1 episode. I started listening to Kpop when I was in middle school, and at this time Korea really drew me in with its and slick choreography in its music. And what’s even more intriguing is the exploding flavors and nutrient-rich food of Korea. I’m a sucker for Korean food, and I actually learned how to cook some Korean traditional food to indulge myself with this outstanding cuisine.

I really wish that someday I could be fluent in Korean, so that I could travel to this beautiful country, talk to its lovely people and enjoy authentic Korean food.

2. Describe a subject that you used to dislike but now have interest in.

The that I’m gonna talk about is literature and I’m sure that not a lot of people are keen on this subject when they are in high school. My gripe with high school literature was that writings in the textbook were written a long time ago, and although they were presented in context, and the teacher did explain why they were popular when they were published, I still found those literary works completely not resonate with me at all. And I think this is the main reason why I got all fed up with high school literature.

Besides that, as I was becoming an I went back and read books assigned in high school and I was like, “why did they assign these for teenagers?” because much of the comprehension happens after experiencing life while high school students are too inexperienced to understand all the symbols presented in the works.

But when I got to university and took the first literature course here, I found that I was able to feel more engaged while reading when I started thinking about assigned reading less as “work” and more as stories, characters for me to indulge in. I started to have a lot of interest in . I also look for more books to read whenever I have free time.

I realize that reading helps reduce stress and provide comfort. If you are facing problems in your life you can escape reality by reading an . Reading can make your imagination run wild and put you in a world of your own.

One more thing is that exposure to published, well-written work has a noted effect on my own writing, as observing the cadence, fluidity, and writing styles of other authors, my writing is influenced invariably.

Well, I would like to talk about the monitor in my class, whose name is Hoai Linh. She is one of the most studious students I have ever known.

I really Linh for several reasons. Firstly, it is her attitude towards studying. Despite being extremely intelligent, she spends more time than any of us in the class to , whether it is a compulsory or subject. She is very hard-working and she is among the students who have the most outstanding in-class performance. Sitting next to me, she often gives me tutorial lessons if I have any difficulties in study. She also me a lot and even sends me her learning materials if I want to have further understanding of the lesson.

Secondly, I can also consider that Linh has an outstanding education background. She can not only learn well but she also has broad common knowledge – which is the reason why her academic transcript has been so far. Once she told me that one of her goals would be to achieve a high distinction degree from this university and I think that it is absolutely possible for such an exceptional student like her. I think that Linh’s success in the future will just be a matter of time as she always moves forward to reach new heights of knowledge.
