1. Describe a time when you received horrible services.

I’m a person who is all about food so I’ve tried so many places restaurants, street vendors, street stalls around Hanoi. But there’s this one particular place that I’ve been to that has a controversial reputation for itself but I am a hundred percent sure that this place offered very services.

People make a name for it which is “cussing noodles” and here’s why. The cussing noodles eatery is located on a busy street in the central area of Hanoi, where the owner serves spicy pig knuckle with rice noodle everyday. The owner, also the chef, is a middle-aged lady with a cantankerous demeanour. I remember when I stepped in to order, I saw the lady at a customer who seemed a bit indecisive about what to order and when she asked for ground pork added to her portion, she immediately got scolded at: “If you like ground pork, go to the market, they’ve lots of it.” Then, she paid the poor customer a disdainful look. Fortunately, when it was my turn to order, I made it all the way through without being yelled at. But the constant yelling and kept going later on.

Although the noodles were actually good and some people might think that rudeness might become this stall’s selling point, I find it extremely hard to tolerate the harsh words of the restaurant owner to enjoy the dish. I have no idea why people accept the abuse only to be able to taste the dish, while they should have demanded proper service. I believe she has ruined the friendly and cultured image of the Vietnamese capital. I think it’s time to stop encouraging these kinds of behavior.

2. Describe a foreign food you would like to try.

I’m going to describe a foreign food I’d like to try, and when I was preparing what to say just now, the first dish that popped into my was Indian curry, so that’s what I’ve decided to talk about.

As for where you can get this dish, well, apart from obviously going to India to eat it, there are, as far as I know, a number of Indian restaurants dotted around my hometown which curry, although for some reason, I haven’t got around to going to any yet; maybe it’s because there are so many decent restaurants there in my hometown.

Anyway, on to how I know about this dish, well to be honest, I’m not all that sure how I got to know about Indian curry, but I guess it’s kind of been a mixture of hearing about it from people, and reading about it in various books and magazines. In fact, I remember reading, a few weeks ago, a in the local paper about a recently-opened Indian curry house which apparently does really authentic Indian curry, so I can’t wait to check it out sometime.

And finally, if there’s still time, with regards to why I would like to try this dish, well thinking about it, I would say that one of the main reasons would be that I haven’t tried it before, which I admit is a little surprising, seeing as most people my age have probably tried it at some stage or other. And as for other , well I suppose I should also mention that I’m a huge fan of spicy stuff, and if Thai curry is anything to go by, I reckon I would really like the taste of Indian curry, as I’m sure they’re not that different.

So yeah, I guess that’s pretty much everything there is to say, so thanks very much for listening.

According to the Vietnamese culture, making Banh Chung is a way to express gratitude to our ancestors and .

Compared with cooking ordinary food, the process of making Banh Chung is much more complicated and as it requires lots of ingredients and skills. To make Banh Chung, we need glutinous rice, pork meat, and green beans. First we have to choose and soak sticky rice in water one night in advance. Rice is wrapped into a square shape, and the wrapping must be neither tight nor loose. Then Banh Chung will be boiled for about 12 hours. This is the most memorable part, as we tend to gather around the fire, chatting and eating snacks the whole night. No matter how the world may become, having Banh Chung with loved ones still plays an irreplaceable role in the Vietnamese spiritual life during Tet holidays.

I had digestive disorder so I could not anything but bland porridge for a week; otherwise I would have vomited constantly. The first couple of days went just fine, I had enough to entertain me. In fact, I felt relaxed because I had time to binge watch my favorite drama. However, by the end of that , I could not stand that meal. I could not even think about it. Fortunately, I was getting better so I could eat other . My mother made me spaghetti with beef and mushroom which she knew was my favourite. It was a basic Italian dish that instantly made my mood . It did not take much time and energy to cook though; basically, there was ground beef, sliced fresh mushrooms, chopped garlic and onions served with tomato sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese. It tasted like heaven to me. The ground beef was savoury mixed with a little cheesy flavor. My mom's homemade meal was not only appetizing but also nutritious because I was not consuming protein and fat for a whole week.

My mom and dad ate it too but I knew they did not enjoy it as much as I did. I tucked into it and even craved for more. This was a memorable meal thanks to the caring and loving of my mother and her eagerness to lift my spirits while I was trapped in my house.

I would like to talk about a fast food restaurant that I really going to. The restaurant is called McDonald’s, and it is located on a road called Burgess Road in Southampton, which is quite close to where I’m living at the moment. Normally it takes me 5 minutes to walk to the restaurant.

I go to McDonald’s quite often actually, because I’m very lazy to cook, and I’m really bad at cooking to be honest. I would say that I come to McDonald’s around 3 to 4 times a week, and most of the time I go there for lunch after finishing my morning lessons. The main type of that is served in McDonald’s is burgers, and it has a very famous product which is a burger called the “Big Mac”. There are several different types of burgers, from cheese burgers to beef burgers and also those that have chicken. Beef burgers are my favourite. Also, the restaurant offers very ice creams.

I think the main reason why I like McDonald’s is because I find the food there very tasty. And the prices are quite compared to Burger King, for example. Another reason is that the staff members at the restaurant are incredibly friendly. Every time I eat at McDonald’s, I feel satisfied with the food and the services.
