1. Describe your ideal house.

When I read the , the first thing springing to mind was the imaginary house I would like to build when I can afford it.

When it comes to a place to settle in, what I attach great importance to is tranquility. That’s why my dream house should be located in a country setting far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I love the idea of constructing a two-storey house which would be enough for a small family. Leading a minimalist lifestyle, I want the house to be painted plain white and the interior design to be as simple as possible. Natural light is a must for this house so each room would have its own window decorated with a vase of flowers.

Each bedroom would have a balcony where we can the breathtaking view of the paddy fields and rivers outside at sunset. I bet you that nothing is as pleasant as the fragrance of the rice plant. Just imagine we get home after a long day of working and all that we need is to sit on the balcony and chill out. I would also create a beautiful garden to plant some vegetables and raise some animals like chickens or pigs. The idea of being self-sufficient in food production is really exciting.

If my dream comes true, I will invite my parents to live with my little family in that house and we will live together for good.

2. Describe an important public place in your area.

I’d like to talk about Hanoi Lotte Tower, which is a landmark located on Dao Tan Street. It has been there for 5 years and has a huge influence on our city.

Hanoi Lotte Tower has more than 65 floors above the ground, 5 floors underground and as far as I know, it’s the 3rd highest skyscraper in Vietnam. According to some articles I read online, the building is designed by an American company called Callison. Its style takes inspiration from the shape of Ao Dai – the traditional costume of Vietnamese women, which is one of its many unique features.

Lotte Tower is a huge, multifunctional complex consisting of modern offices for lease, luxurious apartments, a 5-star hotel, and a commercial center. There’s a huge department store which sells products of so many kinds. Clothes, jewelry, kitchen equipment, electrical household appliances, … you name it. There is also a cineplex for movie lovers and many restaurants specializing in different types of cuisine. It’s nearly impossible to everything that Lotte Tower has to offer in a few hours, but for me, the most outstanding and worth-mentioning feature of this building is its observation deck, which takes you only about 1 minute to reach by two high-speed elevators. It is a special zone located on the top floor with walls made of toughened glass and from there, you have a wonderful, view of the city. It feels as if you were walking on the clouds! The moment when I admire the city skyline with an almost 360-degree view is truly an unforgettable and thrilling experience, and even though the entrance ticket can be a bit pricey, it’s definitely worth the try.

That’s all I’d like to tell you about Lotte Tower. I think this towering skyscraper not only enhances the global standing of Hanoi and raises the city’s profile, but also provides its citizens with pretty much everything they need. And for that reason, I think words are simply not enough to describe its undeniable importance.

3. Describe a house or an apartment that you would like to live in.

I have always been attracted to the idea of constructing my , as my father is an architect and we have always been great fans of watching TV programs that follow the trials and of people who are involved in complicated and ambitious building projects. Sometimes, although there are many difficulties and unexpected challenges along the way, the end resulting home is just beautiful, appealing, and really inspiring.

This small house would be by the sea, possibly in France, as the Atlantic there is still quite wild and underpopulated. I’m attracted to the idea of an environmentally friendly bungalow, which would be open plan and use screens or bookshelves to divide rooms.

I’d love to work with my father on the , and ideally, it would be made of eco-friendly materials, such as sustainable woods, recycled glass, and highly insulated to keep energy costs as low as possible. I’ve been inspired by the Scandinavian-style houses I have seen in design magazines, which are planned to blend into their location, looking simple and clean from the outside, but all mod cons inside.

I would love to have a large terrace to sit and watch the sunsets or share sustainably sourced local foods. I am not tempted by an extravagant, designer, or flashy décor but something understated with stripped or varnished wood floors, a kitchen made from recycled wood, and open shelves to display my collection of ceramic pottery which was my grandmother’s. Light is very important to me, so I would try to incorporate large full-length windows to enjoy the views and experience a connection to the peaceful countryside outside.
