1. Describe a female leader you would like to meet.

Well, there’ve been so many great women who have to the development of human civilization. But when I read this card, the first one coming to mind is Ms. Linh, who is currently leading the Vietnamese Association of Women’s Rights. I guess the reason why her name pops up in my mind is that she is a contemporary leader, so she much more than the others.

As I just mentioned, she is the one who is leading the Vietnamese Association of Women’s Rights. And I have to say that, thanks to her excellent leadership, this organization has achieved a lot of . It has also helped thousands of Vietnamese women live better life. Ms Linh believed that education is the best way to improve women’s lives, so she has organized fundraising events to support opening career centres for the weaker gender. These centres specialize in providing job training for women, ranging from cooking and computer skills to short courses about opening and managing a small business. Besides, she pays special to women in remote areas and under her leadership, the association has founded, let me remember, more than 100 career centres in these regions.

She is friendly and she has a beautiful smile which can give other people a very good impression. But her personality is what I want to focus on here. She is a dedicated and determined woman, and she is also a patient and warm-hearted person who always cares about other people. I think without these , she would not have achieved such great success.

It is such a pity that I have never met her in person. It’s not easy because I know that she is up to the ears in work and she is an influential leader. However, I really hope that I will have an opportunity to meet her just to express my admiration for her for what she has done for Vietnamese females.

2. Describe an interesting story that you heard or read about in the news.

Last week when I was through The New York Times, I came across an intriguing headline stating Women Go Topless for Equal Rights. My was caught at once and I devoured every single line of the article. It was about a new trend in the United States where some women decided to be topless in public in the same way men are. This trend is becoming among feminists in several parts of America and even in some Asian countries such as China. Basically, women see it as unfair that it is socially acceptable for men to be out and about without a shirt on when if a woman were to do the same thing it could result in people shaming her or telling her to stop or even in her being verbally or physically abused. These women are trying to make it for both genders to be topless in public. The story also provided a picture of six female student activists in Guangzhou, China going topless to protest for gender inequality.

Because this matter is now of great throughout the world, it is normal to see it in major newspapers like The NY Times. I was quite intrigued by this topic as I had been regarding myself as a supporter of feminism. I thought it was quite a daring move that might trigger debates between feminists and those opposing them. As far as I’m concerned, this trend is a little inappropriate because going topless should not be seen as a sign of inequality between males and females.

3. Describe gender’s role in society

Women and men have had roles in the community since the beginning. Although these differences are slowly converging, due to the genetic inheritance and socio-demographic components, they still exist. It is said that men should be the breadwinners while women are more for housework and childcare. In my opinion, this statement is not completely right or wrong and requires careful consideration.

Firstly, it is that men should go out to work. Undoubtedly, men are better adapted genetically to perform physical tasks. The difference in physical abilities is clearly demonstrated in the sporting arena. Take for example the Olympics, or any international sporting event. It can be clearly seen that in these the genders are separated due to inherent differences between the sexes. Similarly, such jobs requiring physical strength as logging or coal mining should continue to be done by men.

Secondly, it has been argued that women are more suitable for their traditional roles in the home. This statement is true to a certain extent but it largely depends on society. In certain traditional societies in Africa, females working is frowned upon and is seen as neglecting the family. Whereas in Afghanistan, in general, females are allowed to do little else but stay at home, being a . Consequently, a woman’s value is largely dictated by society, culture and history. Nevertheless, to state that her place is in the home is widely considered sexist in modern western societies. Many women nowadays are in positions of power and changing the world to a great extent. For example, Angela Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany and currently ranked as the world’s second most powerful person by Forbes magazine. Her contribution is obviously undeniable
