1. What is the most important festival in your country?

Our most important festival is without doubt Christmas. We all look forward to it for months, for our loved ones and decorating our homes. It’s for everyone but for children especially. When we knew Father Christmas was about to visit, my sister Samantha and I were always too excited to sleep.

2. Do you think this festival will still be as important in the future?

Yes, I think so. I think people often the true meaning of Christmas, though- I mean, they don’t think about the story of the birth of Jesus-and in the future they’ll probably it even less. They see it more as a time for buying and receiving gifts.

3. Tell me how weddings are celebrated in your country?

Well, the wedding party is the most interesting bit. After the , everyone has a huge meal and then dances all night, sometimes to traditional music played by a band, sometimes just to pop music played by a DJ. I prefer traditional music because you can hear pop music any time, and the old, traditional songs have so much meaning and behind them. The older generation always knows all the words so they sing along!

4. What are some forms of traditional dancing in your country?

Folk dancing is quite , even among young people. The dancers wear traditional costumes, which look beautiful. My favourite is a circle dance performed by women, but there’s also a marching dance and a couple of dances. I’m afraid I don’t know anything about the of these dances, I just know I like watching them.

5. Do you think western festivals like Christmas are replacing traditional festivals in your country?

That is a really good question. I don’t really think so. There is this fear among the people that we’re forgetting our local festivals in favour of foreign ones, but I still see us celebrating our own with great pomp and splendour.

6. When do people give gifts or presents in your country?

Though gifts are around the year, the prevalence is seen more during the religious festivals in India like Puja, Eid or Christmas Day. Besides, there are some other days and events to give . Sometimes gifts are also given on private occasions to celebrate an anniversary or a special day.
