1. Is it more important to preserve historical sites or make way for the developments of the future?

When a wants to build a new shopping center in my country, for example, they are obliged to conduct an archeological survey. If any remains are found, archeologists have to be given time to it. I think this is marvelous. So I think old and new can work side by side and we don’t necessarily have to choose between them.

2. What do you think will happen to your country’s historical sites in the future?

I think many of them will continue to be given funding because people realize that they can make lots of money by attracting to historical sites. On the other hand, some are so dilapidated that they require enormous amounts of and I’m not sure they will survive into the future – some old manor houses, for example.

3. How will your country’s culture have changed in fifty years’ time?

We are becoming more and more multicultural, so I’m not sure that all of our traditions will in their current form. For example, can we continue to regard Christmas as our major celebration if perhaps half of the country does not have Christianity as its religion? It would be a shame to lose our traditions. However, if that is indeed the case, something new will have replaced them in fifty years’ time. And maybe it is better to new customs and celebrations that more accurately reflect modern society.

4. How have special occasions such as weddings changed in your culture?

Special occasions and celebrations and rituals associated with them have changed significantly during the last few decades in our country. In the past, when a man and woman decided to , they used to go to a monk and followed some traditional rituals to become husband and wife. Now they need to register the marriage from a marriage register to be declared as husband and wife. Besides, related to a marriage or similar other important ceremonies are much widely celebrated in a larger social circle. Picking the right date for the marriage to be held was an important matter in the past but losing its importance and becoming . Moreover, couples are avoiding old traditions when they get married these days.
