1. Describe a friend who you think is a good leader.

I’m gonna talk about a friend of mine. His name is Minh. Although he’s , only a year ahead of me, Minh is co-founder of our school’s English club.

Actually, English is not my major at university but all of the students are required to take the IELTS test as part of the requirements. So I decided to join the English club and that’s how I met Minh. My impression of him was that he had a good command of English and, also, he demonstrated a great passion for this language. He helped me practice making conversations in English for a while before we became close friends.

The thing that most people, including myself, find about Minh is that he has such a great sense of humor. I mean, he can make anyone laugh even when they don’t feel like it. He has a way of making people cheerful and comfortable when they are around him. I definitely think Minh is a leader because he knows exactly how to connect with people in his network and motivate them to achieve their goals. He’s incredibly creative as well. Taking part in his English club is many students’ favorite activity. Minh has such a positive influence on people, which I think is what it takes to become a pioneer.

2. Describe a close friend.

I always think I’m person because one of the prettiest girls I’ve ever met is actually my best friend. Her name is Yen. She’s 2 years younger than me and she’s currently a university student.

The first time I laid my eyes on Yen, I was immediately captivated by her peculiar beauty. She’s not very tall, about 1.6 meters, but that doesn’t really matter because pretty much everything else about her is attractive. Things really stand out though are her long, wavy, raven hair; her flawless, smooth complexion and her dazzling smile. Another very special thing about Yen is her favorite perfume, which is a distilled essence of lilac and gooseberries. I never heard of such strange names before, but I’m sure I’ll never forget their bewitching scent.

The first time I met Yen was in a gaming convention hosted by her university. As a huge gamer, obviously I can’t miss such a special occasion. I didn’t expect to meet any girls there because, let’s be honest, 90% of gamers are boys. So when I saw Yen, I was really surprised. However, she seemed a bit so at first, I didn’t have the guts to strike up a conversation. Eventually, I was bold enough to politely ask her if I could have her phone number. To my surprise, she quickly gave me that and even her Facebook. After talking with each other for a while, we got on like a house on fire and before I knew it, we were already an inseparable couple!

To say that Yen has a dynamic personality is, for me, still a gross understatement. She’s simply irresistible. Yen’s almost like the of ideal femininity in my book: passionate, independent, with a touch of vulnerability and just the right amount of cheekiness. Once she gets what she wants in her sights, there’s no way to stop her from achieving it. Although the thought of relying on others rarely pops out in Yen’s mind, she’s brave enough to admit her shortcomings, and show great humility when seeking advice from more experienced people. Yen’s sarcastic sense of humour also makes her one of a kind. She can make witty remarks and smart jokes about pretty much everything, which is why she’s always the life and soul of every party.

I feel blessed to have Yen as my companion. She’s one of the very few people whom I could , and when I do, she’s a true shoulder to cry on. I trust her with pretty much everything since we have been through many ups and downs together. She makes me a better person and I’m forever grateful for that.

Second, she’s a patient person. Unlike me who can get angry very , Hazel’s able to stay calm in almost every situation. In terms of being patient, I am learning a lot from her. I remember last week, both of us had to wait for another friend for nearly two hours because he got up late and . During those two hours, I kind of lost my temper and constantly complained. I was pacing back and forth, while Hazel was just sitting there reading a book. At first, I was really jealous and wondered why she was so relaxed in that situation, but afterward, she said to me: ‘You need to learn how to enjoy every minute of your life. I’m going to talk about my little brother with you today. He’s 10 now, but he’ll turn 11 next month. I’ll definitely come home and his birthday.

He used to be very when he was two or three years old. He cried for hours until he got what he wanted, but now he’s much more obedient. I think maybe because he thinks that he’s not a child anymore, so he needs to behave well. But to me, he’ll always be my little brother.

He’s a good boy. He often helps my mom with some , like doing the dishes or cleaning his room. My dad has to work super hard on the farm; every Friday evening, my little brother usually asks him: ‘Dad, I don’t have to go to school tomorrow. Can I come with you to the farm? Maybe there’s something that I can help with’. Although he’s quite small, I feel like he understands the importance of helping others and being a good person.

Finally, he’s quite an independent child. He doesn’t need my parents to tell him what time to do homework or what time to go to bed; he does all that on his own. He even when it comes to saving money. He’s given 10,000 dong per week for snacks. As soon as he’s got that money, he often sets aside 3,000 to 5,000 dong. I asked him: ‘Why do you do that?’ He said, ‘I want to buy a Lego, but I don’t want to ask mom for it. I can save money and buy it myself’. Speaking of saving money and being self-reliant, I think I need to learn a lot from my brother, even though I’m an adult now.

We haven’t seen each other for nearly two months. Oh, I him so much, and I know he misses me, too, because he calls me almost every day.
